Essential steps to achieve your goals

Whatever the goal, desired result, or area of focus, there are a few fundamentals that form important bedrocks upon which to build success. These are useful reminders for anyone seeking to create something better, activate positive change, or raise themselves or a situation to the next level.
It’s easy enough to overlook the importance of these steps when caught up in a flurry of excitement and eagerness to progress—or even a serious need to fast-track results. The process of converting into reality an idea, desire, or goal can be an arduous and relentless one.
By creating a strong base upon which to build upwards and outwards, success can and will be easier and, above all, lasting. Moreover, when the exhilaration and adrenaline of the initial stages have subsided, and things get a bit more real, you’ll be well-equipped, ever ready, and super pumped to keep on keeping on till the end.
1. Clean Up
Undertaking a new project or beginning to work towards a new goal requires a fresh and different way of being and acting; you are going to be morphing into a new version of yourself.
Identify the current things, habits, and systems that are misaligned with your desired results. Look at what is draining you or distracting you, then declutter! Be ruthless and willing to let go of what is not serving you, and be bold when developing and introducing support in the way of systems and people.
By cleaning up your time outlay, energy expenditure, and physical environment (office, fridge, closet, calendar, etc.), you’ll create more space and efficiency for the new, updated adaptations to run more smoothly.
2. Strengthen
You are the heartbeat of your success. By taking care of your mental, emotional, and physical health daily—and gradually increasing your resilience—you are setting yourself up for success by default.
When you are strong, balanced, well-nourished, fit, and vibrant in yourself, your ability to keep powering through and withstand adversity will increase. The blows and load may be the same intensity, but your capacity to bounce back and deal with stress will override any potential setbacks.
The risk of burnout during hardcore up-leveling is a common reality, and ensuring you are savvy about self-care is on par with ensuring your accounts are in order or that your car is well serviced.
3. Slow Down
Nobody ever hit their targets and nailed their goals by wishing them done or sitting at the drawing board working on the plan for months on end.
It’s in the doing phase that we can gather useful information, observe the effects of our previous actions, and watch the ripple effects our dealings, movements, and interactions have had. Once armed with this real-time feedback, we can fit together more clearly the pieces of the puzzle.
To take stock in this way, though, we need to slow down on occasion by balancing the doing with a little being time. A reduced pace or even some empty space (anything from one afternoon per week to half an hour) will provide opportunities for contemplation, re-centering, re-routing, and more accurate decision-making if things emerge to be off-target.
